Britain's Katie Boulter says she feels she has to "decide between my body and my ranking" as the competition carries on for a spot in next January's Australian Open main event.
While the standard WTA Tour tournament schedule is completed, there are still position points to be gained in Latin American countries, Argentina, Ecuador and European destinations.
The women's competitor lineup for the opening Grand Slam of the 2026 season will be based on the world rankings of 8 December, which could present a dilemma for players close to the qualification line.
Previous British leading competitor Boulter tore an hip muscle in her final event of the year in Asian venues last period, and is now weighing up whether to compete in the WTA 125 secondary tournament in Angers, the continental destination, in the initial week of December.
Boulter's current physical issue, and the reality she would need to achieve at least several wins in the European event to boost her ranking, means she may likely eventually not participating.
In contrast, men's competitors are not experiencing the equivalent situation, as for the initial instance the male Australian Open participant roster will be created from current week's positions, which is the ATP's official annual-final standing calculation.
The modification is intended to discouraging competitors from chasing ranking points during what is essentially the rest interval.
This season has been a difficult one for Boulter.
She won only 14 Tour-level major tournament contests and recently separated with trainer Biljana Veselinovic after a extended working relationship in which she secured several WTA victories.
"Biljana is an exceptional coach, and an extremely excellent human as well, which makes things very difficult," Boulter commented.
The pursuit for a different trainer is well under way, seeking an individual who has elite experience as Boulter still believes she can be a world-class player.
"Moving ahead with a new coach, a key aspect I'm completely sure on is that they are going to be an individual who has extensive expertise in how to make it to the peak performance of this profession," she stated.
"I've been positioned as advanced as twenty-three and I believe I can climb back to that level. I don't think my standard has diminished, I think the reliability must develop.
"My objective is not merely to be placed fifty, 40, 30, 20 - we've achieved that. The goal is to be within 20."
