Detonations and Low-Altitude Planes Heard in Venezuelan Capital City Caracas

Witness testimonies emerged of numerous blasts and the roar of low-altitude aircraft in Caracas in the early hours of the weekend. This situation has prompted claims from Venezuela's leadership and demands for diplomatic intervention.

Caracas Accuses US of Aggression

Venezuela's socialist administration has condemned the US of committing "imperial aggression," claiming that ex- President Donald Trump supposedly ordered military strikes against the South American country. In an public statement, the authorities confirmed that strikes had targeted Caracas and several other regions: Miranda, La Guaira state, and Aragua.

"Our primary goal of this aggression is to take control of our nation's strategic resources, especially its petroleum and resources," Venezuela asserted.

Venezuelan officials urged the global community to condemn the actions, which it termed a "flagrant violation of international law" that placed numerous of lives at risk in danger.

Reports of Blasts and Military Installations Hit

Eyewitnesses spoke of experiencing roughly seven explosions around 2 a.m. in the morning. People in various areas allegedly hurried into the streets outside.

"Everything shook. It was terrifying. We experienced blasts and planes in the sky," commented one local.

Black smoke was seen billowing from two military installations in the city: the La Carlota military airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna compound, where president Nicolás Maduro is thought to reside.

International Response

The leader of neighboring Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated on X that "Right now they are striking Caracas... attacking it with projectiles." He requested an urgent meeting of the Security Council.

Colombia, which just became a member of the Security Council, stated it would activate security protocols at its frontier with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

The alleged attacks come after a extended campaign of pressure by the Trump administration against the Maduro regime. Beginning in last summer, there has been a substantial US military presence off the country's Caribbean coast and a number of airstrikes on vessels suspected of illegal activities.

The government has declared "a state of external threat" and directed all defense plans to be activated. It has also summoned its supporters to take to the streets and "reject this imperialist aggression."
