England to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated passage for a tournament staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Launch and Demonstration

The championship was unveiled at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they entered the location by about 50 protesters, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The first match of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will feature the Dragons if they qualify.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for European club finals from next season, will attract families and help connect with a wider spectrum of viewers.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through the standard process.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a championship for the supporters and a celebration of everything we cherish about the football – its emotion and power to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million passes, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
