Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Strives to Address the Anime's Major Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original film. Rather, the recent film from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise is a compilation of the series' second installment merged with the initial episodes of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games arc from the manga series. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the earliest way to watch the start of the next season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The movie premieres in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Games plot, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the anime series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the very first time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the studio have a treat as installments 40 and 41 in store for fans this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is often hailed as one of the greatest sequences in animated series lore, notwithstanding the significant debate in the previous year when the installments originally aired. It was claimed that the creators were suffering from harsh deadlines to the extent, and the final version that was shown at the time was not fully polished and reportedly not what the animators originally planned.

The Epic Battle

The sequence involves a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It includes unique visual techniques, superb cinematography, and dynamic fight choreography. A follow-up physical media version gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to enhance the battle. So it was plausible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that battle has been given extra attention. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be watched on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the topic of conversation for an extended period in the series' fanbase. Fans had heard of the issues behind the scenes, which made them value what they viewed even more. People anxiously checked to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, enhanced animation, and revised visual style.

The Feature's Advantage

But the home video can only refine what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the potential to do the sequence justice with more adjustments and freshly created footage.

A Masterpiece

Currently, these two episodes represent the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by Mappa, especially considering the debate they faced at the time. It's drawn the focus of viewers all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a much-expected plotline of the following year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, showcase the series' best moment once again in movie houses with the best interpretation we've experienced so far.
