President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid public safety in DC.
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
