The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
